 — Chautauqua — 

To allow our friends and family to spend as much time with us and each other as possible, we’re encouraging our guests to stay with us and our families at the Colorado Chautauqua (photos above), an incredible collection of historic cottages, parks (including tennis courts and playgrounds), a Dining Hall (restaurant), and hiking trailheads nestled at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.

For those of you who know how much we both love history, you're probably not surprised that Chautauqua is a National Historic Landmark! It was founded in 1898 as part of the then very popular Chautauqua movement, which fostered the creation of cultural and educational summer retreats across rural America.

NOTE: Chautauqua has a three night minimum for Labor Day weekend, so we expect that mosts of our guests staying here will arrive Friday and depart Monday.

 — Foot of the Mountain Motel — 

We've also booked six rooms at Foot of the Mountain Motel, an adorable family-owned motel whose historic wood cabins from the 1930s and newly renovated rooms are literally at the "foot of the mountain" while also being just steps away from Boulder Creek and a few blocks from downtown Boulder. The motel is a 30 minute walk or 7 minute drive from Chautauqua.

Foot of the Mountain Motel does not have a three night minimum, so is a great option for guests looking to stay for only a night or two, or who are looking for a completely private space if our 1 bedrooms at Chautauqua are taken.

 — Other accommodations — 

A few other nearby hotels in Boulder that we believe don't have Labor Day weekend minimum stays include Briar Rose Bed & Breakfast, Boulder University Inn, the Quality Inn & Suites Boulder, and the St. Julien Hotel & Spa. All of these are about an approximately 30 minute walk from Chautauqua or a 7 minute drive. Airbnb is of course also an option.

Unfortunately, the Boulder area does not have great camping options. If you are dead set on camping, send us an email and we'll help you figure something out!

Reserving and paying for your spot at Chautauqua or Foot of the Mountain Motel

We've already reserved all the cottages and rooms we should need at both Chautauqua and Foot of the Mountain Motel since neither establishment offers room blocks.

Please share your lodging preferences and your arrival and departure dates on the RSVP form. We'll then be in touch to confirm cost and payment options.

Chautauqua cottage details

All Colorado Chautauqua cottages come with a full living room, fully equipped kitchen, dining table and table settings, linens, towels, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, and free wifi. They do not have TVs or phones.

There is a 3 night minimum stay at Chautauqua.

Option A: Private 1 or 2 bedroom cottage

• Beds: 1 full/fullXL/queen/king bed ----- AND ----- 1 full/queen sofa bed
• Cost: $200/night TOTAL including tax for 1 bedrooms; $235 – $263 for 2 bedrooms
• Note: We have a very limited number of 1 bedroom cottages available. 

Option B: Shared cottage - Share a 2 or 3 bedroom cottage with friends or family! All bedrooms have either a single full/fullXL/queen bed or two twin beds, so offer plenty of privacy. We will play matchmaker and match you up with old friends or new ones!

• Beds: Twin, full, full XL, and queen all available! We will match you up with beds that meet your need.
• Cost: Max $70/person/night including tax for a bed spot, and max $55/person/night for a sofa bed spot. People staying in larger cottages with more people will pay closer to $50 (bed) / $35 (sofa bed) per person per night. The final cost will be dependent on how many people stay in each cottage.

Note that all of the above prices include a 15% group discount.

Foot of the Mountain Motel details

All Foot of the Mountain Motel rooms come with free continental breakfast, an in-room refrigerator, and cable TV.

There is no minimum stay at Foot of the Mountain Motel.

Option C: Private room with queen bed

• Beds: 1 queen bed
• Cost: $180/night including tax

Option D: Private room with double bed

• Beds: 1 full bed
• Cost: $129/night including tax
• Note: These economical rooms - which Foot of the Mountain calls their "Cozy Up" rooms - are just that - cozy! The average 225 square feet.
