Explore Boulder

Lunch & Breakfast

Boulder was named America's Foodiest Town in 2010 by Bon Appetit Magazine! Here are a few of our favorite spots.

  • Boulder Farmers' Market (30 min walk from Chautauqua) — Saturday 8am to 2pm. LOTs of prepared food options. Live music from 10am to 2pm.
  • Chautauqua Dining Hall — A Boulder tradition since 1898, and actually a restaurant (not so much a dining hall these days!). $10 sandwiches and lots of other great options.
  • Chautauqua General Store — Great $5 sandwiches + full coffee menu and homemade ice cream!
  • Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse — Completely built by hand without the use of any power tools, the Teahouse was constructed in Dushanbe, Tajikistan as a gift to their sister city, Boulder. The teahouse offers breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner.
  • Arabesque — Family-run cafe with delicious Mediterranean breakfast and lunch offerings. Zach met a friend for coffee there at 8am once a week while we lived in Boulder!
  • Lucile's — Delicious Creole brunch spot in downtown Boulder. Their beignets are to die for!
  • Alfalfa's Market — Pick up your cereal, milk, and picnic supplies at this at the local, independently owned (and a bit pricy, though closest to Chautauqua) grocery store.

Boulder Activities

Boulder has something for everyone! Here are a few of our favorite Boulder activities:

  • Bike the Boulder Creek Path — Get a 24 hour B-Cycle (bike share) membership ($8) and ride along the stunning Boulder Creek Path
  • Wade or tube Boulder Creek — Rent a tube or just splash around!
  • Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse — Enjoy international afternoon tea in this stunning building (see Lunch & Breakfast section above for details)
  • Avery Brewing Tap Room — Visit the home of world-famous (among beer aficionados) Avery Brewing, one of our favorite breweries!
  • Downtown Boulder — Great people watching, shopping, and a 4 block pedestrains-only stretch of Pearl Street!
  • CU Boulder campus — Take a walk around the University of Colorado's flagship Boulder campus, with gorgeous sandstone and red roof buildings.
  • Yoga — There are almost as many yoga studios in Boulder as there are people! Kidding! But there are many to choose from! Our favorite studio, Core Power, has three studios in Boulder, including one that's walking distance from Chautauqua.
  • Boulder Creek Hometown Festival (30 min walk from Chautauqua) — If you love small town summer festivals, you're in luck! The Boulder Creek Hometown Festival runs September 3 – 5.
  • Bouldering Flagstaff Mountain - A very short hike from Chautauqua is the legendary bouldering area at Flagstaff Mountain
  • Trail running - Either right out the door at Chautauqua, or for added challenge seek the steeps at Mount Sanitas, just on the edge of town in the foothills
